Terms of Service

1. Acceptance

By creating an account or using trivia.playbyhouserules.com, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

2. The service

House Rules Trivia provides a hosted multi-tenant platform for running live trivia events at venues, plus tools for content creation, scoring, and player management.

3. Accounts

Customers (venues, locations, hosts) are responsible for the security of their account credentials and for the conduct of their sub-users. You must provide accurate registration information and keep it current. You must be authorized to bind your organization to these Terms.

4. Acceptable use

You will not:

Use the service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of applicable laws.
Upload content that is defamatory, obscene, infringes third-party rights, or contains malware.
Attempt to circumvent rate limits, security controls, or access data you are not authorized to view.
Resell or sublicense the service without our prior written consent.

5. Customer content

You retain ownership of trivia questions, branding, and other content you upload. You grant House Rules Trivia a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display, and process that content as necessary to operate the service.

Aggregate, anonymized statistics derived from gameplay (e.g., question difficulty rates, average response times) are owned by House Rules Trivia and may be retained indefinitely.

6. Fees

The service is provided at no charge at this time. There are no paid plans and we do not collect payment details. If that changes, these Terms will be updated and account owners notified before any fee applies.

7. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate accounts for violation of these Terms or to comply with legal obligations. Cancelled accounts enter a 90-day grace period during which they can be reactivated; after that, identifying personal data is anonymized as described in our Privacy Policy.

8. Player data

End users (players) joining a game agree to the collection and use of their data as described in our Privacy Policy. Customers must not export, sell, or otherwise misuse player contact information collected through the platform.

9. Disclaimers and liability

10. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated to active customers by email at least 30 days before they take effect.
